Saturn in Pisces

An Overview of the Saturn Archetype, Pisces/Neptune Archetypal Unit and Saturn in Pisces transit

Capricorn/Saturn Archetypal Unit:

Everything Needs A Foundation!

In the birth chart Saturn is the active agent of the Capricorn need for Achievement, Excellence, Order, Foundation, Structure, Organization, System, Perfection, Discipline, Success, Control, Limits, Authority, Form, Status, Mastery.

After enthusiastic, flamboyant, jovial Jupiter the deeply contrasting energy of Saturn is experienced as cold, austere, uptight and reserved. In the presence of emphasized Saturn energy, we might feel like hitting a wall (pun intended) if we try to establish a warmer emotional connection.

That’s why Saturn is referred to as the Lord of the Morning After!

The fun is over, Jupiter needs to sober up, step back and let the strict Taskmaster restore order and discipline so work can begin, to achieve great results!

Doesn’t sound like fun but without the limitations of Saturn we might lose objectivity and the ability for self-restraint, ultimately leading to the perils of excess.

And yes, Saturn is the bringer of grief, old age, pain, cold, misery, death, decay, gloom, suffering, drought and scarcity, loss, despair, anguish, sorrow, ruins, mourning, delay, guilt, blockages, and fear (not a pretty picture!) but as everything in life, its process is not all negative, scary and depressing!

There’s a lot more the Strict Teacher can give as long as we’re willing to perceive the struggles and challenges as part of our path to greatness!

A wise man once said, ‘When a man thrashes (Saturn) his robe on the stone (Saturn) of the river and wrings it (Saturn) it’s not because he wants to hurt it but because he wants it clean for the feast day.’ Ramana Maharshi

This is how Saturn operates. And if we are willing to understand, accept and embrace its fundamental role and immeasurable importance to the world and our personal development we will be rewarded by the just and fair Taskmaster!

Some of the Rewards of Saturn: (see the related article in my Blog for more details):

⧫ We learn how to develop discipline and the ability to build & preserve, along with personal responsibility.

⧫ Saturn provides the much-needed resilience, grit and inner strength to get through hard times.

⧫ Challenges are not perceived as punishment but as opportunities for growth.

⧫ We mature and acquire the skills necessary to achieve lasting stability and success.

Yes, Saturn limits, delays, and hinders but it also provides the building blocks for the foundation, the structure, the skeleton (literally), the shape without which no tangible form can exist. It protects through shells (calcium, Saturnian element) until new life is ready to hatch.

Also, by presenting us with challenges and hardship Saturn becomes an agent of progress – frustration with current circumstances can be a powerful catalyst for change and improvement!

We definitely need to appreciate more the presence of this energy in our charts and reality!

It’s true that Saturn often says No but that motivates us to learn and find a way to accomplish what we want, achieve our goals in spite of all the barriers and blockages and grow in the process.

Being so driven to excel Capricorn/Saturn is a natural Master of systems, rules, regulations, order, schedules, frameworks, timeframes, deadlines, plans, operating procedures, strategies, and methods to achieve long-term goals through hard work, discipline, and time & priority management.

Without the push of Saturn, we won’t do much as it is part of human nature to try to avoid hardship!
‘Whether we use psychological or esoteric terminology, the basic fact remains the same: human beings do not earn free will except through self-discovery, and they do not attempt self-discovery until things become so painful that they have no other choice.’
Liz Greene – Saturn – A New Look at an Old devil
Saturn’s challenges definitely lead to the discovery of what we’re made of and who we truly are!

Pisces/Neptune Archetypal Unit:

‘One simply cannot fold up a cloud and put it in a drawer!’ – Jungian Analyst and brilliant astrologer Alice O. Howell on Neptune

In the birth chart, Neptune is the active agent of Pisces’ need for Infinite Love & Beauty, Transcendence of Duality, Surrender, Holiness, Forgiveness, Atonement, Oneness with Life/God, Bliss, Escape, Altruism, and Compassion.

Neptune was discovered in 1846 which historically connects to the birth of Psychoanalysis, the practice of Dream Interpretation in the middle of the 19th century, and a few years later, to Freud’s work, as well as the Romantic period in literature, art and music and the invention of photography.
Curiously enough the French astronomer Urbain Le Verrier who discovered Neptune was born on March 11th!

Spiritual pursuits and aspirations, psychic and mystical experiences, blissful states, vivid dreams, active imagination, refined expression, clairvoyance, telepathy, heightened intuition, deep feelings of connection to God, along with visions of infinite love, beauty, and peace are all expressions of the higher, positive, divine side and nature of Neptune.

Exquisite beauty, subtlety, mystery, symbolism, fantasy, images, gestures, sound, and gracefully flowing movements are the main components of Neptunian creativity and style!

People with dominant Pisces need to be aware of excessive (Jupiter also present here as the traditional ruler of Pisces) urges to run to the rescue of those in need. The altruistic impulse is admirable however it could denote neglect of one’s own psychological needs and issues.

By trying to save another Pisces unconsciously ‘de-selfs’ and avoids working on their own wounds and problems.

The identification with the victim and the rescue leads to projection – the inner pain is being displaced onto an external carrier who requires saving.

That’s the Piscean way to avoid responsibility for their own well-being. Psychological masochism, self-effacing behavior, sacrifice, passivity, self-sabotage, chronic procrastination and living in the clouds are all part of the Neptunian Shadow.

Also, Pisces/Neptune is known for its out-of-this-world creativity and artistic expression: Leo and Libra are creative and artistic too but in a different way, more tangible, more aligned with existing cognition. Piscean art, however, dissolves boundaries of perception, transcends reality and brings something sublime and divine in performance and artwork.

Saturn in Pisces Transit: 2023 -2026

The End of Self-Deception, a Call for Maturity and Responsibility vs Escapism & Chronic Procrastination.
Saturn began a long journey through Pisces back in March of 2023.

Saturn is the Regulatory Affairs of the Zodiac, the Cosmic Taskmaster, the Strict Teacher, Inspector and Boss, the Lord of Time, demanding Self-Mastery and Discipline!

Fairy tales and stories about cruel old men and women putting the protagonists through all kind of hardship, forcing them to learn a lesson so they can become stronger and better, are all expressions of Saturn symbolism. But if they make it through the challenges, in the end the protagonists are rewarded for their efforts and hard work!

Saturn controls us through Time – our lives are organized, scheduled, and regulated (all Saturnian functions) by day/night cycles and the clock.

But through the realization that ‘the clock is ticking’ and we age every day Saturn reminds us, in its own somber way to live life to the fullest as we won’t be around forever!

While in Pisces, Saturn will not tolerate procrastination, evasion, false positivity, or fake compassion.

A warning: It could also manifest as toxic wickedness masked as virtue!

Psychologically, with Saturn in Pisces…

*What is born in imagination must be given a tangible form and structure.

*Sensible approach to spiritual matters required.

*Setting strict emotional boundaries becomes a priority.

*Artistic talents will bring success only through focused effort and hard work.

*Victim mentality, chronic complaining and despair will only make things worse.

*Disillusionment, removing certain people from the position of being on an emotional pedestal, loss of ideals.

*No tolerance for addictions! Toxic habits related to excessive use of addictive substances (including alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sugar etc.) as well self-sabotaging behavioral patterns will have to go or at least they will have to be limited and put under control.

*Loss of status if not on solid foundation.

What to expect on a larger/mundane scale, with this transit:

*Increased economic, political, and social influence of pharmaceutical companies/Big Pharma.

*Pressure on policymakers to focus on the needs of the most vulnerable social groups: the elderly, the sick, the homeless.

*Increased popularity and revival of ancient spiritual traditions and beliefs (the return of the Old Gods), paganism, shamanism, yoga, energy healing etc.

What are spme of the positive effects of this transit?

*Saturn in Pisces brings together the spiritual with the material, the mystical with the practical – a great time to ‘systemize’ your knowledge and skills in healing, artistic creativity, symbolic literacy, dream interpretation etc., and put them on a solid foundation for a successful practical application.

*The helping professions will be rewarded for hard work.

*With that astrological influence we can learn to appreciate more the beauty of seclusion and time spent in silence, away from the noise of the world. And that is precisely what we need to consciously hear the voice of our intuition and calling and discover our own spiritual truths and meaning!

*During the transit through the Neptunian realm Saturn can help us learn how to deal with our problems, addictions, and weaknesses more objectively and manage them well, over time. The energy of this transit will also teach us how to overcome regret, guilt and victim mentality and achieve stronger emotional sobriety and resilience.

*With Saturn in Pisces we can strengthen and solidify our connection to the sacred, the sublime and transcendental, by embracing the laws of the Universe and focusing on accomplishments aligned with our spiritual values!
